This ruin of a miner's car
was 8 1/2 miles from Mt. St. Helen's when it erupted. Super heated gas
of 450 degrees Fahrenheit destroyed the car and killed the miner and his
wife in their nearby home.
The explosion sent tons of
debris into a lake at the foot of the mountain. A huge log jam still
fills the lake at the far end.
